Two days later, a car was sent to pick her up at 6:00 a.m. They were filming in an empty arena. It was in a part of town that she had never been to before. That was the thing about living in New York; it felt like she could spend her whole life exploring the city and never actually see it all. Maybe the city was telling her that she would never be at home here.

The idea of the video was to have everything stripped down. The band was shooting in an old, rusty arena. There would be a small stage that looked like it belonged to a county fair rather than a sold-out arena. Eleanor knew instantly there was no way the flimsy stage could hold all four of them plus instruments.

The video would be shots of each member of the band performing on the stage to an audience of one. They would sing to their significant other, who would be sitting in the front row of an empty arena. The lighting would be dim, almost yellow.

As much as she hated to admit it, Eleanor loved the concept. She also liked that it would honor Jenny and Chip, and not just be the Art and Ellie show.

She had two costumes for the show—one a stage outfit and one for when she was in the audience.

For her audience outfit, she got to wear an old Pitt sweatshirt, which she assumed was a tribute to their hometown roots, along with sweats and a pair of fuzzy slippers. She had never been more comfortable while shooting a music video, ever.

Her second outfit felt more like what she was used to. It was similar to the one she was going to wear on tour, a royal blue, covered in sequins—her favorite type of material. She loved seeing the glittering reflection out of the corner of her eye. It brought her joy. Even though it felt three sizes too small and was way less comfortable than her sweats, she loved it.

Maybe this wasn’t going to be so bad after all.

James had also agreed to limit Eleanor’s time spent shooting with Art, in part, because he had sprung the whole thing on her last minute. In total, they only had to be in the same room for five hours, which was not bad, all things considered.
